My road to Yaoi (Anime Wednesday on a Saturday)

So, as you can see from this title, the topic today is for Anime (which should have been posted a few days ago…). You see, I’ve been an Anime fan since I was five years old, before I even know that anime is called an anime. Up until now that I’m 19, I’m still a big fan. I am a big fan of Shingeki No Kyojin (Attack on Titan), Yu yu Hakusho (Ghost Fighters), One Piece, Slam Dunk, Get Backers and Claymore. If you notice most of these Anime that I mentioned were all “Shonen Anime”. I rerely watch Shoujou Anime (The only ones I liked in this Genre are Card Captor Sakura and Super Gals and Yamato Nadeshiko Shiichi Henge 😦 ). Let’s just say that I like action more than romance. Some of other favorites are Hellsing, Elfen Lied (Lucy is freaki’n badass!), and Higurashi no naku koro ni, which are all gore anime, call me a psycho bitch but I do like those.

Now let’s go another side of the spectrum. Another genre that I was addicted to since I was 11 is YAOI which means, Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (No climax, no fall, no meaning) or as we fujoshis jokingly says all the time, “Yamete, oshiri gaitai!” (Stop, my butt hurts!). Personally, think the second one is the real meaning since Yaoi, most of the time has story lines that “Climaxes and falls” (Innuendo intended  😉 ), and some stories run really deep.

Here are some titles that I’ve watched/ liked/ loved.

  1. Junjou Romantica (The first “real” Yaoi I’ve watched. Way back in 2007 or 2008)
  2. Kirepapa
  3. Sukisyo
  4. Gravitation (Including the OVAs)
  5. Sensitive Pornograph (I’m a perv)
  6. Zetsuai
  7. Winter Cicada
  8. Haru wo Daiteita
  9. Sex Pistols
  10. Ikoku Irokoi Romantan

and a whole lot more.

My favorite types of yaoi (Anime or Manga) are the ones mixed with psychological, slice of life, comedy or mystery components, My most favorite is the psychological one. Since it will make your brain work to understand everything that is happening, these are heavy stuff.

Now let’s go back to the very beginning, since I was a child when I was about 6 or 7 years old, I watched the first Crush Gear series (That one with the main character named Kuuya Marino or something). At that age I was starting to think like this “What if that male character fell in love with that other male character?” But at that time, I always think about scenarios where the more feminine person of the pairing was genderbent to a girl (I always think of things that way, when I was younger… I dunno maybe it’s because of my Christian upbringing.) I always think of scenarios that way for every single anime I watch (Yep, I have a yaoi couple in EVERY single Anime I watched, ever.), from Crush Gear, Bayblade, Yu-gi-oh!, Ghost Fighters, Every thing.

Then I came across an Anime called “God Save Our King!” (Kyou Kara Maoh!) on Animax when I was 11, where there is a male x male cannon pairing! Let’s just say that, that changed my whole world and my view of things. At first I did the thing I always did before, genderbending Wolfram or Conrad ( 😛 ), up until the day I accepted that there is nothing to be changed, and they don’t need to be genderbent in order for me to enjoy those types of pairings… Thus, my Yaoi fangirlism came in full bloom (Like the academy (If you read yaoi mangas then you’ll get the maning of that) 😀 ).

I didn’t knew the term “Yaoi” until I was 12 or 13, but I could say that I’ve been writing my own “Yaoi” fictions (yep, my own characters) since I was 11. I have actually made a whole notebook with an unfinished story in it… I wrote on notebooks because I was considered a technophobe up until the age of 12…(Trust me, at that time I don’t even have my own cell phone despite that age, and I’m too afraid to use a computer. I only got to make a project requiring one with the help of my mom, and the first thing I used the internet for, was for watching Kyou Kara Maoh! and Super Gals AMV’s on YouTube!)

Then a older church mate of mine, with the same interest. Told me the term “Yaoi” and that if I was really into boy x boy anime then I should research for it… And I did (At first I got the term wrong and spelled it as “Yaoie” on google 😛 I know I sucked at using the internet at the time.). My world has never been the same after that.

The first legit Yaoi anime I’ve ever seen was Junjou Romantica, way back in 2008. I first saw an AMV of it which goes with the song “Sexbomb” By Tom Jones…

The video goes a little bit like this… Although judging by the date, I think this isn’t the video that I watched. At first I was a little bit outraged with the scene where Usagi-san raised both of Misaki’s hand up and then proceeded to fondling him under his pants. I was actually so afraid to be kicked out of the internet cafe I frequented (since at the time, my family do not have our own computer. 😦 ). But now that I think about it… Now I could consider that scene PG 5 (as in 5 year-old) compared to some scenes I’ve watched from different R-Rated Yaoi animes… I still love Junjou romantica though.

That year also, was the same year I lost a lot of weight… Since I skip out lunch (Not a good idea.) to save money, so I can go to that Internet cafe after school to watch episodes of Junjou Romantica on YouTube (Back in the days when YouTube isn’t as strict with copyright). I finished up to Junjou Romantica Season 2 using that same method.

Then as years go by I watched a lot more Yaoi, I’ve became a hardcore fangirl, I’ve read almost 1/4 if not half of Manga Anime-A’s Yaoi selection, and right now I’m reading a Yaoi manga on the said website…

That’s all for now see you later! 😀 ❤
